Using this site
waterfalls.com.au is a free guide to waterfalls in Australia. By using the site you agree to these terms. You are welcome to read, share and link to any page. Please don’t copy large parts of the site, scrape it in bulk or present our content as your own.
Waterfall locations come from OpenStreetMap and are available under the Open Database Licence. Photos are credited on each page and used under the licence shown with them.
Information is a guide only
We work hard to keep the details on this site accurate, but conditions at waterfalls change quickly and we can’t check every one in person. Flow status is an estimate based on recent rainfall, not a measurement at the fall. Access status comes from park alert feeds where they exist and may lag behind what is happening on the ground. Walk times, facilities and fees can change without notice.
Always check signs on site and the official alerts from the park manager before you go. If a track is closed, don’t enter it, even if this site shows it as open.
Safety at waterfalls
Waterfalls are natural places with real hazards. Rocks near water are often slippery, cliff edges can be unfenced, and creeks can rise fast after rain upstream, even when the sky above you is clear.
- Stay on marked tracks and behind barriers at lookouts.
- Keep a close eye on children near edges and water.
- Check the weather and fire danger rating, and turn back if conditions change.
- Carry water and a map, and tell someone where you are going. Many waterfalls have no mobile coverage.
You are responsible for your own safety and the safety of anyone with you.
Swimming
When a page says swimming is allowed, that means the park manager permits it. It doesn’t mean the water is safe on the day you visit. Plunge pools can be deep, cold and hard to climb out of, and currents get much stronger after rain.
Never jump or dive from rocks or the top of a fall. Don’t swim in floodwater or when the flow badge shows strong flow. In northern Australia, only swim where signs say it is allowed, because crocodiles live in many creeks and waterholes.
Third-party links and bookings
This site links to other websites, including park services, map apps and tour companies. We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for their content or services.
If you book a tour through a link on this site, your booking is with the tour operator or booking platform, on their terms. Questions about prices, changes and refunds should go to them. Some of these links earn us a commission, as explained in our Affiliate Disclosure.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for any loss, injury or damage that comes from using this site or relying on its information. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and using the site after a change means you accept the new version.
